Ensuring summer comfort in school buildings - Quo vadis? |
Oliver Ottinger |
"We want to offer students and teachers a pleasant and safe learning environment". This is the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg's motto when it comes to school construction. .The application of Passive House principles ensures comfort in winter. Summer thermal insulation, on the other hand, is becoming increasingly difficult due to increased all-day operation, rising outside temperatures and the increasing use of lightweight timber construction methods. Thus far, primarily natural night-time ventilation strategies in combination with thermal storage masses have been utilized. This presentation will discuss which other passive or active cooling concepts are possible and meaningful for the future realization of pleasant learning and working environments. |
